There isn’t one answer that applies to every learner.

And that is precisely the point.

Start with the learner, not the solution

When we talk about “learning support”, it can sound as though we’re talking about one particular intervention.

In reality, support can look very different from one learner to another.

One learner may have a specific learning gap that needs targeted attention. Another may understand the work but struggle to keep up with the pace of a larger classroom. Another may need teaching strategies better suited to the way they process information.

For some learners, the learning environment itself may be part of the challenge.

The goal shouldn’t be to fit every learner into the same solution. It should be to understand what is creating the barrier and consider what could help that individual learner move forward.

Different doesn’t mean less

Individualised support isn’t about removing expectations or making learning “easier”.

It is about recognising that learners may require different routes to reach meaningful learning outcomes.

That might mean more time, a quieter environment, smaller groups, targeted intervention or a different educational pathway.

When the environment and support are better suited to the learner, we create more opportunity for progress and confidence.
